Contempt case: Apologise in person, Delhi HC tells Vivek Agnihotri

NEW DELHI: Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri filed an affidavit on Tuesday tendering an unconditional apology to the Delhi high court in a criminal contempt case over his remarks against a judge, but a bench of justices Siddharth Mridul and Talwant Singh directed him to appear in person and express remorse.

"We are asking him (Agnihotri) to remain present because he is the alleged contemnor. He has to be present and show remorse in person......Does he have any difficulty if he has to express remorse in person? The remorse cannot always be expressed by way of an affidavit," the bench told his lawyer.

'The Kashmir Files' director also submitted, through his lawyer, that he had deleted his 2018 tweets against justice S Muralidhar, who was then a judge of the Delhi high court and is now the Orissa high court chief justice. However, the amicus curiae told the court that it was Twitter that had removed the tweets.
