NEW DELHI: People turned up from various assembly constituencies of Delhi as well as other parts of the country, including Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Chhattisgarh and Uttar Pradesh, to attend Bharat Bachao Rally organised by the Congress at Ramlila Maidan.
The rally provided a good platform to Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee, which is preparing to battle it out with ruling Aam Aadmi Party and BJP when Delhi goes to polls early next year.

City Congress leaders mobilised workers from all assembly constituencies and after the rally, Delhi Congress chief Subhash Chopra said that the rally’s success indicates that their party is coming back to power in Delhi.
All roads leading to Ramlila Maidan were choked since Saturday morning with hundreds of buses bearing registration numbers of different states rolled into the city. The gated venue had run out of space to accommodate more people by noon. The roads surrounding the ground were also full of people.
“We have come to support the Congress. It is necessary to raise a voice in support of farmers, and against the deteriorating condition of the economy,” said Rajesh Meena from Churu district of Rajasthan, who came with a group of 40 villagers.
Lalmati Devi from Mehrauli said that she never thought she will have to buy onions at Rs 150 per kg. “Modi had promised to check price rise, but inflation is on the rise,” Devi said.
Congress leader Abhishek Dutt said that the tide is now turning in favour of their party. “The gathering shows that people have huge faith in the Congress and now they want an alternative. The economy is down and unemployment is at its peak,” Dutt said, adding that the success of the rally has left local party workers full of confidence.

Huge cut-outs of Sonia, Rahul and Priyanka were seen inside the ground, which also witnessed many persons dressed up in unique characters to hold the crowd’s attention. The entire area was flooded with hoardings, posters, flags and printed T-shirts attacking PM Narendra Modi with catchy slogans and remarks.
Youth Congress president B V Srinivas said several Youth Congress functionaries who came to Delhi from different states requested Rahul Gandhi to take over as the Congress president.
“The outstanding success of the rally proved that the people of Delhi are tired of BJP at Centre and AAP in Delhi, and want the Congress to come back to power in Delhi,” Chopra said.
