Police in riot gears clamped down on protesters who went on a rampage blocking roads and setting vehicles on fire after the arrest of independent candidate Naresh Meena who allegedly slapped a sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) over a polling dispute in Tonk district's Deoli-Uniara assembly constituency. Right before the police took Naresh Meena into custody, the Congress rebel had claimed that he would not surrender before the cops. The region saw widespread unrest since Wednesday afternoon after the slapping incident. Many government officials came out in support of the SDM and demanded immidiate arrest of the accused leader.
