NEW DELHI: A month after a 17-year-old girl was murdered in a Mercedes car in Najafgarh, police have charged the car owner, Yogesh, with murder after probe revealed that he had handed over the pistol to the killer, Shubham Gupta, to threaten her.
During interrogation, Yogesh claimed that he had tried to help Gupta when he was having an argument with the victim, Simran.
Rishi Pal, DCP outer, said that during recording of statements Simran’s mother Astha said that Yogesh had asked Gupta to take the gun kept in his car and “resolve the matter once and for all”, while he sorted it out with the victim’s boyfriend, Nitin.
On the day of the murder, when Yogesh stopped his car outside Simran’s house, Nitin blocked their way with his scooter and confronted Simran. While Yogesh tried to “resolve” the matter with Nitin, Gupta confronted Simran inside the car.
Gupta said that Simran claimed that she did not know Nitin. An argument broke out between the two, during which he pulled out the pistol from the glove box and shot at Simran.
Gupta, who helped his father in his jewellery business, told police that he had shot Simran in a fit of rage after he found out about her “affair” with Nitin.
