The British High Commission organised a pre-screening of the film 'Wild Karnataka'. The film, narrated by Sir
David Attenborough, delivers behaviours and diversity of
wildlife
. Camera teams spent three years in
Karnataka filming mountains, deserts, jungles and the ocean – and gained unprecedented access to some of India’s most famous national parks. It is the first Indian
nature documentary
to have a theatrical release nationwide (on January 17).
The event also marked the launch of UK's 'Green is Great' campaign – an initiative to highlight the strengths of the UK-India partnership on climate and sustainability in the run-up to COP26, which will be held in
Glasgow
later this year.
Speaking at the event, Dominic Asquith, British High Commissioner to India, said, "I'm delighted to introduce to you a film celebrating the wonderful wildlife of Karnataka. I am very lucky to have visited Karnataka a number of times over my four years in India. It occupies five per cent of the country's landmass, yet is home to a quarter of India's animal species, including more tigers and elephants than anywhere else on the planet. This film release comes in an important year for the world's environment and
biodiversity
. In November this year, the UK will host the next global climate conference, COP26, in Glasgow in partnership with
Italy
. Today we also kick off our 'Green is Great' campaign, which will run for the whole year, and engage you all in a deeper conversation about what more India and the UK can do together for the environment."
