NEW DELHI: The Delhi unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has criticised the proposed categorisation of colonies under the Unit Area Method for collection of house tax.
Noting the seriousness of the proposals, which are set to go into effect from April 1, 2004, the party has decided to set up a three-member committee to study the proposals.
The committee will submit its report within three days.

Leader of the opposition in the Delhi Assembly Jagdish Mukhi, leader of the opposition in MCD Subhash Arya, and secretary of Delhi BJP Vijender Gupta are members of this committee.
Dr Harshvardhan said that the new unit area method for levying house tax was anti-people.
There is a provision of seven years of imprisonment and Rs 1 lakh fine under this new method on defaulters, which according to Harshvardhan, would increase corruption.
