NEW DELHI: Leader of Opposition in the assembly R S Bidhuri on Monday termed the Delhi government’s Outcome Budget as “another attempt to hoodwink the public”, alleging that a “white lie” had been presented in its name.
“Last year, the Kejriwal government had claimed 20 lakh jobs would be provided in Delhi in the next five years, but on the ground, not even 20,000 jobs have been given,” claimed Bidhuri.
He further said that the government had announced that five markets, including Kamla Nagar, Khari Baoli, Lajpat Nagar, Sarojini Nagar and Kirti Nagar, would be redeveloped, but “none of these saw any changes”.
“The government had said last year that it would facelift Gandhi Nagar readymade garment market by giving it a special package. But the market’s condition has only worsened,” he alleged.
Shopping festival announcement is another promise that remained only on paper, Bidhuri said.
Bidhuri said the Delhi government had also promised that there would be 15,000 new buses on city roads, but only 250 electric buses had been brought in a year.
The Outcome Budget for 2022-23, presented by finance minister Kailash Gahlot, showed 54% of the 124 critical indicators of the department of health and family welfare and 69% of 88 indicators of the transport department were ‘on track’.
Bidhuri said the government itself has admitted that only 67% of work in education and just 66% of work in DJB has been completed.
“Last year, they said the result of Class X in government schools was 97%, while in reality, it was was 81.27%.”
The leader said Delhi had slipped to the eighth position in National Education Performance Grading and as far as the city’s infrastructure was concerned, the Ashram flyover is yet to be made fully operational, even though it has been described as an ‘achievement’ by the government.
“We saw that several tests in mohalla clinics remained closed for months and the staff did not get their salaries,” he said.
