AHMEDABAD: Three robbers targeted a couple — both senior citizens — at their bungalow on the Shilaj-Thaltej Road, and looted the couple's valuables worth Rs 22.9 lakh. Then at knifepoint, the robbers forced the seniors to pledge not to call police.
The robbery occurred on Monday and was reported to Bodakdev police on Friday by a 75-year-old resident of Aryaman Bungalows on the Shilaj-Thaltej Road.
According to the complaint, the couple were asleep in their bedroom when they were shaken awake by the robbers.
The masked men threatened the couple with a knife. They forced the complainant to lie face down on the bed while one of the assailants pressed an object against his back.
The other two robbers threatened the complainant's wife with harm unless she opened the safe.
The robbers made off with diamond-studded earrings, gold necklaces, bangles, and luxury watches.
The complainant said that before the robbers left, they made him and his wife touch each other's heads to swear the oath of silence. The robbers said they would be back to hurt the couple if the crime was reported.
The couple, shaken by the ordeal, waited until dawn to alert their security personnel and check the CCTV footage.
The footage revealed that the robbers had entered the house by breaking a glass window near the dining area.
The local police have launched an investigation. They are examining the CCTV footage and gathering evidence to identify and apprehend the culprits.
A case has been registered under various BNS sections, including 305a (theft from house), 331-4 (house trespass or break-in), and 351-3 (criminal intimidation).
