Avoid immersing Navratri leftovers into Yamuna: Verma

New Delhi: Delhi PWD minister Parvesh Sahib Singh on Wednesday urged residents to avoid immersing Navratri Khetri in Yamuna, appealing for an environmentally responsible celebration of faith.

After offering prayers at Jhandewalan Temple, the minister said Khetri—grown during Navratri as a symbol of devotion—should not be discarded in the river, which he described as Delhi’s lifeline. “It carries our faith and effort, but I request people not to immerse it in the Yamuna,” he said.

Instead, Singh asked citizens to deposit Khetri at designated processing units, including a facility at a nursery opposite the Secretariat, where it will be converted into compost. “It may seem like a small step, but its impact will be significant in making Delhi greener,” he said.

Govt has identified multiple green zones, parks and nurseries across the city for the collection, including sites in Vivek Vihar, Rohini, Dwarka, Kalkaji, Vasant Vihar and Narela. Prominent locations include Sanjay Lake, Hauz Khas District Park, Sanjay Van and Millennium Park near Sarai Kale Khan.
