NEW DELHI: In a recent order, a city court sentenced two youths to rigorous imprisonment for looting and seriously injuring three persons in a moving city bus last year.Additional Sessions Judge S P Garg sentenced Raj Kumar and Jai Prakash to seven years and five years of rigorous imprisonment respectively for injuring three persons with knives. The third accused, Satpal, was acquitted in the absence evidence.
A fourth accused, a minor, is being tried at a juvenile court. The complainant, Turanti Lal, was travelling along with with his cousin, Raj Nath, from Sagar Pur to Anand Vihar. As the bus reached Delhi cantonment, the accused boarded the bus and stood surrounding the victims.
A boy, who was an accomplice, picked Lal’s wallet but Lal grabbed his hand and raised alarm. The accused then freed the boy and jumped off the bus. Following this, Lal and his cousin also jumped off and caught hold of the boy. The other accused then stabbed them to rescue the boy. They also stabbed a passenger who tried to help.
