Virat takes to Twitter to quash speculations on engagement with Anushka

DEHRADUN: Indian Test cricket team captain Virat Kohli on Friday took to Twitter to trash all speculations regarding his engagement with film star girlfriend Anushka Sharma that had been doing the rounds since a few days. Dispelling the rumours that had gained ground after the arrival of Amitabh Bachchan and Anil Ambani along with their respective spouses on Thursday at the spa resort Ananda in the Himalayas where Virat and Anushka had been staying since December 24, the cricketer wrote on his Twitter handle @imVkohli, “We aren't getting engaged & if we were going to, we wouldn't hide it.Simple. Since news channels can’t resist selling false rumours & keeping you confused, we are just ending the confusion.” Anushka retweeted the message.
Earlier in the day, the arrival of Bollywood fashion designer Manish Malhotra at Ananda had kept rumour mills alive regarding the alleged engagement. Anushka’s paternal grandmother had told TOI a day earlier that she wasn’t aware of “any impending engagement yet” adding that she “likes Virat and would be happy if the two decide to get married.”
The couple had arrived in Uttarakhand on December 24 and had directly gone to the spa resort avoiding any interaction with fans many of whom had gathered at the airport as well as outside the premier resort located at Narendranagar in Tehri district. On Christmas day, Kohli had posted a Twitter message for fans wearing a Rudraksh mela, hands in a traditional mudra pose from inside the resort. A day later, Anushka posted an 18-second video of her feeding a peacock inside the resort with the caption, “Ultimately, it's all about cherishing the simple things in life that truly bring peace.”
Speculations began doing the rounds of the couple contemplating getting engaged after the two, late on Tuesday night, visited Anant Dham, an ashram located at Ambuwala village near Haridwar. They met the ashram's chief preceptor Anant Maharaj believed to be the guru of the actress’ family and conducted a pooja for continued success and prosperity in their lives. In December 2014, too, Anushka had visited the ashram with her relatives and had conducted a similar pooja.
Uttarakhand has been among the preferred destinations of cricketers and actors alike. While Sachin Tendulkar is a frequent visitor to Mussoorie, Indian one-day cricket team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni chose Dehradun to tie the knot with Sakshi Singh at a ceremony solemnised at a resort in the sleepy Lower Kandoli village on the outskirts of the city in 2010.
