Uttarakhand tops Himalayan states in cases of rape: NCRB

Dehradun: Uttarakhand recorded the highest number of cases of rape of women and children among the nine Himalayan states including Himachal Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura and two union territories (UTs), Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) and Ladakh, according to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report on crime for 2022.

As per the report released on Monday, a total of 4,337 cases of crime were reported against women in Uttarakhand last year, which was 907 more compared to 2021, followed by J&K with 3,716 cases and Himachal Pradesh at third spot with 1,551 cases.

There were a total of 867 rape cases reported last year in Uttarakhand, followed by neighbouring Himachal Pradesh with 359 cases and J&K with 287 cases.

Among the other states, Meghalaya reported 75 such cases, Tripura (62), Manipur (42), Mizoram (14), Sikkim (13) and Nagaland (7).

Similarly, the state also reported the maximum cases of child rapes with total 637 cases followed by 272 in Meghalaya and 237 in J&K.

The neighbouring state of Himachal Pradesh reported no cases under this head.
