NAINITAL: A 35-year-old taxi operator committed suicide allegedly after not being able to repay the loan he had taken for his taxi.
Lalit Kumar, a resident of Ethaan village of Bageshwar district, consumed poison late on Sunday, police said, adding that investigation is on in the case. He was rushed to the hospital where he was declared brought dead.
Kunti Devi, the aggrieved mother of the deceased, said, “My son was under pressure to repay the loan.

He decided to take his life to free himself from the clutches of this company.”
Kumar took Rs 4 lakh in 2016 from the bank to purchase a transport vehicle but was facing difficulty in repaying the amount.
Investigating officer Satyaprakash Raypa said, “The deceased took poison around 9 pm on Sunday. We have taken the statements of the family members but no suicide note was recovered.”
Last month, a transporter from Haldwani committed suicide by consuming poison at the janta darbar of the BJP. He had alleged that he was running in debts due to the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax and demonetization by the BJP.
