Transport dept organises road safety youth festival in Dehradun
Dehradun: Uttarakhand transport department on Thursday organised the Road Safety & Green Earth Youth Festival 2026 at a private university in Dehradun to promote awareness on road safety and environmental responsibility among students.Around 3,000 students from various universities and institutions across the state participated in the event. The programme included cultural competitions, as well as sessions on traffic safety and emergency response.

DIT University won the fashion ramp walk competition, while students of Uttaranchal University secured first place in the live band performance. Dev Bhoomi Uttarakhand University and Graphic Era University won trophies in dance, painting and skit categories.Additional transport commissioner Sanat Kumar Singh said the initiative was aimed to encourage young people to follow traffic rules and spread awareness. "If youth lead by example and follow traffic norms, road accidents can be reduced," he said.Crash investigation demonstrations and first aid and CPR training sessions were also conducted during the festival.Regional transport officer (enforcement & road safety) Anita Chamola said road safety required discipline and responsibility. "Through youth participation, we aim to increase public awareness on safe driving practices," she said.
