Dehradun: Additional district judge of the fast track court, Pankaj Tomar, on Monday sentenced a 24-year-old man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment after finding him guilty of abducting and sexually assaulting a minor girl. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on the convict.
Rajendra Singh, who hails from Chandausi area of Sambhal district in Uttar Pradesh, used to operate a fast food cart under the jurisdiction of Patel Nagar police station in Dehradun. In June 2022, the police had rescued the girl from Haryana and arrested the accused, who had taken her to his maternal uncle's residence where she was raped.
Additional district govt counsel (ADGC) Kishor Kumar Singh said, "On June 22, 2022, the girl was abducted, following which an FIR was lodged against Singh under IPC sections 363 (kidnapping), 366 (inducing woman to compel her marriage), 376 (rape) and the Pocso Act."
The girl informed the court that on the pretext of marrying her, Singh had first taken her to Chandausi and from there to Haryana. During the period, he had physical relations with her on several occasions.
The prosecution produced the medical report along with seven witnesses to substantiate its case. After examining the evidence, the court found the prosecution's case beyond reasonable doubt and sentenced the man to 20 years in jail.
