Dehradun: The state government on Monday issued an order to promote around 600 teachers in Uttarakhand to the post of lecturers. The announcement comes almost a week after the president of the Rajkiya Shikshak Sangh met education minister
Arvind Pandey.
The minister also announced that the government is preparing plans to regularise employment of around 16,000 teachers who are on contract.
“The government will not let the teachers suffer and they should also end their protest and start attending classes,” he said.
Pandey added, “The central government’s guidelines state that elementary teachers must have Teacher’s Eligibility Test degree or a diploma in elementary education. If this comes into effect, around 16,000 teachers will be affected. The government is working hard to protect the jobs of these teachers. Also, contracts of teachers who have the degree will be regularized.”
Welcoming the mover, president of the association K K Dimri, said that the government should now decide on the other demands. “We won’t have to protest if the government considers our other demands.”
