DEHRADUN: The main accused in the UKSSSC (Uttarakhand Subordinate Service Selection Commission) question paper leak case, Syed Sadique Musa, is also allegedly involved in leaking question papers of recruitment exams in Himachal Pradesh and UP. This was revealed by the Uttarakhand STF, which is probing the case.
The state police will now contact their counterparts in these neighbouring states to seek their help in the investigation.
Musa, allegedly the leader of the UP-based cheating gang, was arrested by STF from Lucknow along with a close aide Yogeshwar Rao on September 15.
STF had then stated that it was Musa who had bought the question paper from the Lucknow-based private tech firm owner and another arrested accused Rajesh Chauhan for Rs 8 lakh. He then sold it to other arrested accused -- Hakam Singh, Chandan Manral, Rajesh Chauhan and Kendrapal -- for Rs 10 lakh per student.
An officer privy to the probe, requesting anonymity, told TOI, "It is likely that he (Musa) had leaked more question papers in UP than in HP and Uttarakhand."
STF has so far held 41 accused in UKSSSC scamThe officer informed that Musa, from Ambedkar Nagar in UP, had "accumulated properties, including movable and immovable assets, worth around Rs 500 crore by selling leaked question papers."
"These properties are mostly in UP's Lucknow, Ghazipur and Sitapur districts. He led a lavish lifestyle and was fond of horse-riding. He had also taken membership of different race courses in the country, apart from flaunting his lifestyle by uploading reels on social media. STF is gathering more details about his properties and is mulling to seek his police remand from the local court soon," said the officer.
Before he was arrested, Musa had gone underground after the arrest of Rajesh Chauhan.
He was allegedly hiding in Nepal and was planning to escape to another country.
Ashok Kumar, director general of police told TOI, "Strict action will be taken against anyone found involved in the case."
STF has so far arrested 41 accused in the case. Of these, 21 have also been booked under the Gangster Act, so that their properties could be attached.
