Students of the Uttarakhand Board of School Education (UBSE) from classes II to XII will now have to take monthly tests. Education officials said that the move was meant to familiarize students with exams and to improve the quality of education.

Seema Jaunsari

, director, State Council of Educational Research & Training (SCERT) told TOI, “To ensure proper evaluation, test papers will be checked on roster basis by teachers from various government schools. SCERT will be preparing the papers by 10th of each month and the test is likely to be taken in government schools on 20th of each month.”

Jaunsari added, “The idea behind this initiative is to ensure that the level of schoolchildren’s understanding of subjects is maintained. The test will cover all important subjects and gauge steps which need to be taken to improve their understanding. We are doing this to improve the overall quality of education in state-run schools.”

The tests are likely to begin in January once schools reopen after winter break.

Teachers have welcomed the move.
