Notices to three for spreading fake news on social media

police on Tuesday served notice to three people for sharingfake news
on social media.Assembly Election Results
The three accused shared fake news of around six people dying and 18 others getting injured in a bus accident on Tanakpur-Lohaghat Road and the post went viral creating panic in the area.

magistrate Ahmad Iqbal and superintendent of police DS Garbyal posted messages on social media that no such accident has taken place and that the news was fake.The accused have been identified as Onkar Singh Dhauni, a resident of Lohaghat, Chandra Sekhar Oli and Laxmi Verma both residents of
Tanakpur
and police have asked them to reply within five days.The SP said that the three accused have been sent notices for posting fake news and spreading panic in the area. “We had challaned them and asked them to reply. After serving the notices, Oli and Verma apologized to police and assured that they won’t repeat the act.”
