Mussoorie Writers Mountain fest is here
MUSSOORIE: The Mussoorie Writers Mountain Festival (MWMF), now in its seventh edition, is all set to invite entries for a photo essay contest, that will encourage budding photogs to display how ‘a picture can say a thousand words’.
This year, the festival’s theme is ‘Women and Mountains’. Festival director Stephen Alter said, “The seventh Mussoorie Writers Mountain Festival has a terrific lineup of speakers and promises to be an exciting event.

The primary theme is 'Women and Mountains' and the photo-essay contest highlights this. Photographers of all ages are encouraged to submit their work.”
This main idea of the competition is to showcase the best in mountain-themed photo essays focusing on women – to recognize the best stories, adventures and day-to-day experiences told through a series of still images. The top three prizes will be exhibited at MWMF 2015 (22-25 October) and will be awarded a citation and a festival limited edition souvenir.
Each essay submitted is to consist of three to five images. Any related stories in the contexts of culture, adventure, wildlife, sport, environment and landscape, or natural history are welcome.
What is interesting about the competition is the fact that entries are being invited from both professional and amateur photographers from across in the world.
The entries can be sent by June 30 and all entries will be viewed by a selection committee chaired by the Alter. Finalists chosen by this committee will be viewed by an independent jury of professional photographers. The jury will make a collective decision by August 20.
The organizers hope to make the photo essay contest a regular feature of the MWMF.
