DEHRADUN: Days after the alleged 'mastermind' of Haldwani violence Abdul Malik was picked by police from Delhi, cops in Nainital district arrested his son Abdul Moeed, 29, from the national capital on Thursday.

In a press conference on Thursday, SSP, Nainital, Prahlad Meena said, "Abdul Moeed was arrested by one of the six police teams formed to nab the nine key accused in the Haldwani violence case. Teams travelled to Maharashtra, Delhi, Gujarat, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and other states, and the one led by sub-inspector Anees Ahmad, which went to Delhi, managed to nab Moeed."

The arrests were part of an ongoing probe by Nainital district police in the Feb 8 Haldwani violence which broke out in Banphoolpura area. Police teams released posters of the 'wanted accused' and were on the lookout for Moeed, cops said, adding that "84 people were held so far".

SSP Meena added: "He (Moeed) was brought to Dehradun from Delhi following which he was produced before the local court."

DIG Kumaon announced a cash reward of Rs 5,000 to the police team and SSP Nainital announced a reward of Rs 2,500.
