Man held for killing first wife in Doon
Dehradun: Police here claimed to have solved the murder of a woman whose body was found stuffed in a plastic sack in Dehradun's Premnagar on March 11, with the arrest of her husband on Thursday.Police could not find out the details of the deceased earlier, but she was later identified as Rupa Sharma (32), a native of Saharsa, Bihar, who was living in Dehradun with her husband, Ranjit Sharma (32), also a resident of Saharsa.SSP Pramendra Dobal said the couple married in 2009, but Rupa eloped with another man four years ago and married him. In the meantime, Ranjit also married another woman and was living with her in Dehradun."Last year, Rupa returned with her 11-month-old daughter from her second husband and began living with Ranjit. She started putting pressure on him to leave his second wife, who was staying with her parents," said Dobal.Dobal said that on March 5, the couple had an argument when Ranjit was speaking to his second wife on the phone. "She snatched his phone and asked him to leave his second wife. The argument escalated, and Ranjit strangled her to death in a fit of rage," the SSP said.
Ranjit then called his second wife to Dehradun, hid the body in a blanket until her arrival, handed over the baby to her, and later dumped the body in a nearby forest.Police tracked Ranjit using CCTV footage and local inputs. He was arrested and charged with murder before being produced in court, which sent him to jail.
