MUSSORIE: It was an emotional moment for the recently appointed DGP of Uttarakhand Anil

Raturi

when he was in his home town of Mussoorie where he was felicitated by local residents.

Raturi, whose father ran a dry cleaning shop at

Mall Road

, said that it was good to be back home in the town which was a mix of “modern and rural”. “This town has an exceptional quality. It is a beautiful mix of modern and rural. It carries a homely feel where everyone knows everyone,” the 1987 batch IPS officer said at the function organized by the Press Club of Mussoorie. Among those who were present on the occasion to share memories and fascinating instances was Raturi’s sister,

Neeta Rawat

, principal of LLN School Mussoorie, who said her brother was a protective sibling even in childhood. “ He was always sincere, hardworking and very focused,” Rawat said.

It also emerged at the function that the top cop has a sporty, fun-loving side to him. His senior from St George’s College, commander (retd) Prakash Mehrotra, told TOI that he was an “exceptional bowler and stood out while playing football.” Mussoorie’s chronicler

Gopal Bharadwaj

said that Raturi was “brilliant at roller skates and went on to represent India in

Egypt

and Mexico”. Going down memory lane, the DGP said, “I still recall the atmosphere during the 1960s and 70s. Money was little but the times were simple and beautiful. There were just two cars and one bike in the town.”
