NAINITAL/DEHRADUN: The Uttarakhand high court on Tuesday directed the state government to withdraw its January 28 notification on re-appointment of over 6,200 guest teachers.
The order has come as a blow to 6,214 guest teachers, who are without jobs since March 31 when the education department had scrapped their contracts. The court has now fixed August 1 as the next date of hearing.
On January 28, the hill state government had directed the secondary education department to re-appoint the guest teachers in the cadre of assistant teacher LT Grade for which an advertisement was issued.
However, the government order was challenged in the high court. The court observed on April 11 that the government order has lost its significance as the state has itself taken a decision against continuing with the guest teachers and the vacant posts were being filled by regular selection.
On the day of the court’s observation, the government amended procedure for appointment of the guest teachers. The Congress government also said that a district-level selection committee will be formed for appointment on the post of assistant teachers.
On May 25, the government again issued a notification to re-appoint the educators within seven days, wherever positions are available
However, on Tuesday, the high court asked the Harish Rawat-led government to withdraw the original notification.
