: The guest teachers who have been teaching in the government schools are now a worried lot as their jobs will last until March 2018. Earlier this week they held a meeting to decide their

future course

of action.

Speaking to TOI, Harish Arya, vice-president of the

Guest Teachers Association

in the state said, “We had convened a meeting of all 95 blockheads or their representatives to decide on about our future course just in case a way is not made for our long-term employment after March. We want to have a plan B to secure our jobs.”

Over 3,000 guest teachers were hired in state-owned schools around Diwali this year, but they can only teach till March 2018 in government schools.

“We are hoping to meet the education minister soon and have been assured by the education department officials that some way will be found, so that we are not unemployed by March 2018. We will wait till the winter break is over. If a suitable solution is not found after that we might approach the high court or plan agitation in future,” added Arya.

The teachers are also aggrieved over untimely payment of salaries. However, education officials said that this matter can be resolved only after the schools reopen post winter holidays in January. The number of vacant posts will also be taken into account to consider application of guest teachers to continue in their posts said an official from the education department.
