DEHRADUN: Days after being expelled from the BJP, Khanpur legislator Kunwar Pranav Singh Champion lost his 'Y' category security after a review of threat perception by the Union home ministry.
Government sources told TOI that the decision to remove Champion’s security cover, provided by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), was taken on Friday night and the security force has been informed about the development.

Notably, under the 'Y' category security blanket, 11 personnel are provided to a high-risk individual.
New Delhi-based CISF public relations officer Hemendra Singh confirmed the development while speaking to TOI. The Khanpur legislator had been enjoying Y-category security since 2016, when he had joined the BJP.
While Champion was unavailable to comment on the development, BJP legislator Desraj Karanwal, with whom the Khanpur MLA shares a strenuous relationship, told TOI, “I welcome the party’s decision of expelling him and I support the withdrawal of his Y category security cover. He should get just one armed personnel of the state police like other MLAs.”
However, the lawmaker has his own private army called ‘Champion Force’, comprising of eight personnel with licensed weapons. His private security team accompanies him during his personal and official visits. Champion also ensures a room with ‘Champion Force’ sticker posted on its doors for his private security team.
Earlier, three arms licences of Champion were suspended after a purported video of the legislator brandishing guns and dancing at a house party became viral on social media. Soon after, he was also expelled from the saffron party.
