Gen Bipin Rawat medal for distinguished service awarded

DEHRADUN: To mark the first death anniversary of former chief of defence staff, General Bipin Rawat, who passed away in a chopper crash last year, the first edition of a lecture and conferment ceremony in his memory was organised by Kasiga school, Purkul, on October 12.
The school awarded the General Bipin Rawat medal for distinguished service to Portia Putatunda, founder of Planet Spiti Foundation, for her work in the field of education, health, women empowerment and environmental conservation.
According to the organisers, the idea of the event was to pay homage to General Rawat for his exemplary service to the nation which would be an inspiration for generations to come.
Chief guests for the event were Lt Gen (Dr) Rakesh Sharma and author Rachna Bisht. Besides cultural performances, the event included discussions and anecdotes from the early life of General Rawat, his professional growth and contributions as well as stories about his compassion and resilience.
