DEHRADUN:
Chief minister Harish Rawat
has approved a proposal on Monday to hike the compensation amount paid to victims of man-animal conflict in the state from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 6 lakh. The amount will be provided to those killed by
wild animals
like leopards, tigers,
tuskers or bears
in the state.
The decision was taken at a meeting of
Uttarakhand Wildlife Board
chaired by
CM Rawat
at the secretariat on Monday.
The meeting also decided to double the amount of compensation from Rs 50,000 each to Rs 1,00,000 to those seriously injured in such conflicts and Rs 50,000 to those who suffered minor injuries in the conflicts. In case of compensation for death of cattle by animals, the owner will get Rs 50,000 as compensation, instead of the current Rs 25,000.
The meeting also gave a nod to including snake bites in the category of man-animal conflicts. "Since we have added snake bites to the category of human-animal conflicts, victims of snake bites will be entitled to the same amount of compensation to those killed, seriously injured or injured in other such cases," said Rawat.
