NEW DELHI: Heavy rains triggered a sudden cloudburst near Sahastradhara, Uttarakhand on Tuesday, causing rivers and streams to swell dangerously. Amid the chaos, five people were trapped in the raging waters, prompting a swift response from police and SDRF teams. In a daring rescue operation, all five were safely brought to shore, officials said.
The overnight downpour also wreaked havoc across Uttarakhand, damaging roads, houses, and shops, and washing away a bridge early Tuesday, leaving several areas cut off. Authorities continue to monitor water levels as heavy rains persist.
