Haridwar: A 25-year-old man from Almora, who used to work as a chef at a hotel nearby, allegedly drowned while bathing in the Ganga river near Mastram Ghat in Lakshman Jhula area on Wednesday. Suraj Singh, the chef, was swept away by the strong river current, an SDRF team member said.
The SDRF team from Dhalwala conducted a massive search operation and finally managed to fish out his body "from a depth of about 20 feet using deep diving".
SDRF local head Kavindra Sajwan told TOI, "Incident took place on Wednesday when Suraj went to bathe at Mastram Ghat. Divers were immediately pressed into action. They found him after extensive search of the area."
The body has been handed over to police for legal formalities, the SDRF member added.
