DEHRADUN
: With barely days left for the counting of votes,
BJP MLA from Badrinath,
Mahendra Bhatt
, stirred controversy on Sunday by alleging that “the party is in touch with several
Congress and independent candidates, who are in winning positions.” When asked whether BJP will welcome Congress MLAs if needed,
Bhatt
said, "To ensure a ‘Congress-mukt Bharat’, we will have to bring in more leaders from that party." The Badrinath legislator added that the saffron party is already in touch with several Congress and independent candidates who as per various surveys, are "strong and in winning positions."
TOI had earlier reported that BJP is internally working on its ‘Plan B’ in case the results throw up a hung assembly.
According to party insiders, the BJP leadership has started reaching out to a few independent candidates, who are in a strong position in “at least 3 to 5 seats", and can emerge as king-makers in case no party gets a clear majority.
