B’desh man illegally staying in India held in Rishikesh
Haridwar: A Bangladeshi national living illegally in India since 2016 by posing as a Hindu preacher was arrested near Lakshman Jhula in Rishikesh on Friday.
Disguising as a Hindu religious figure, Rahman delivered lectures on religion and philosophy across India. He frequently visited Rishikesh and Laxman Jhula area and established connections in the area.
He arrived at an ashram in Lakshman Jhula on Thursday. During a routine check, police on Friday detained and interrogated him and recovered a Bangladeshi passport and other incriminating documents.
A case has been registered against Rahman under relevant sections of BNS and the Immigration and Foreigners Act 2025. Lakshman Jhula SHO Surya Bhushan Negi said Rahman is also associated with a right-wing outfit in Ghaziabad.
