DEHRADUN:
Jasvir Singh, 43, a property dealer from Ambala who had taken his wife and minor daughter on a pilgrimage to Char Dham, allegedly murdered them and escaped from the hotel where they were staying in Govindghat,
Chamoli, leaving his car behind in Karnprayag.
The bodies of mother-daughter duo — identified as Jaswinder Kaur, 40, and Simran, 17 — were found inside the hotel room on Tuesday morning with their throats slit, while police impounded Singh’s car from
Karnaprayag
in the afternoon.
The
Uttarakhand
police have contacted their
Haryana counterpart seeking their assistance in the case.
Chamoli superintendent of police (SP) Tripti Bhatt told TOI, “The family had come in a car and checked into the hotel on Monday evening. Prima facie it looks that husband killed his wife and daughter after an altercation with his wife in the night hours, and then left the hotel.”
Bhatt said, “We have formed numerous teams and launched a manhunt to nab the accused. We are even taking the assistance of Ambala police in arresting the suspect.”
According to Chamoli police, hotel staff told them that when
Jasvir
was asked to submit his ID proof for booking the room, he said he was having severe leg pain and would submit the ID proof later. However, the accused told hotel reception staff that they were coming from Ambala.
“In the wee hours, he locked the room from outside and escaped from there. Upon suspicion, hotel staff informed police in the morning, who opened the room just to find both mother and daughter lying in a pool of blood,” said a senior district police officer.
A case is yet to be register in this connection.
