RUDRAPUR: A 65-year-old woman was found dead at her residence in Devbhoomi Colony in Khatima area of Udham Singh Nagar district on Wednesday.Janki Chandra lived alone on the first floor of her two-storey house after her husband's death, while the ground floor had been rented out to a couple. Her son, an Army personnel posted in Punjab, had been trying to contact her for the past two days but received no response, prompting him to alert his relatives.When the relatives reached the house, they found the door locked from outside and informed the police after entering the premises and discovering her lying in a pool of blood.Khatima circle officer Vimal Rawat said, "Preliminary investigation indicated that the woman was attacked from behind with an iron rod, resulting in fatal head injuries. The assailants are suspected to have locked the door from outside before leaving the spot. The body has been sent for postmortem"Police have detained the tenant couple for questioning and are also reviewing CCTV footage from the area. A special investigation team has been formed to probe the case, police said.Neighbours said the woman was associated with the Brahma Kumaris organisation and regularly attended religious gatherings. She is survived by two married daughters and an unmarried son.
