2 law students among 4 dead as car plunges into 20-foot-deep canal in Mathura

Crane was deployed to lift the submerged vehicle from the canal

AGRA: Four men, including two law students, travelling to attend a family wedding in Rajasthan were killed after their car plunged into a 20-foot-deep canal under Magorra police station in Mathura district late Wednesday night, police said on Thursday. The victims were heading from Mathura towards Deeg in Rajasthan when the accident took place near the Nagla Deviya turn.
According to police officers, it is likely that the driver lost control of the vehicle while attempting to avoid an oncoming car. Police soon reached the spot and launched a rescue operation.A crane was deployed to lift the submerged vehicle from the canal. With the help of villagers, police broke open parts of the car and pulled out two occupants, but both were unresponsive. Two more bodies were later recovered from the vehicle.Three of the victims have been identified as Mathura residents Rahul Verma, 23, a tailor from Baldevgarh; Amit Kumar, 23, a law student from Premnagar Kalan in Mahavan; and Mohit, 22, also a law student. The identity of the fourth victim is yet to be established, police said.SP (rural) Suresh Chandra Rawat said, "The bodies have been sent for postmortem examination, and legal proceedings are underway."
