4.7 magnitude quake in Kumaon, 2 hurt

Bageshwar: An earthquake of magnitude 4.7 on Richter scale struck Kumaon hills on Saturday morning leaving two persons injured.

The epicentre of the quake was Gogina area in Bageshwar district and tremors were felt across Bageshwar, Almora, Pithoragarh, Champawat and Nainital districts. The district disaster management authorities in Bageshwar said that two persons —Basanti Devi, 41, and her daughter Reeta, 11 — were injured when the wall of their house in Kidai village collapsed in the impact of the quake. Bageshwar district disaster management officer Shikha Suyal said, “Both of them suffered minor injuries. They were rushed to the district hospital where they were provided first-aid, Rs 3,800, two blankets and a disaster relief kit.”

Officials said that soon after the tremors, Bageshwar DM Ranjana Rajguru reviewed the situation and instructed emergency response teams to be on alert.
