RISHIKESH: Three coaches of the Ujjain Express derailed near Yog Nagari Railway Station in Uttarakhand’s Rishikesh on Monday night.
The incident occurred at around 9.30 pm in the Khand Village area. No passengers were present on the train at the time.
Preliminary reports suggest that a brake failure during routine maintenance may have caused the accident. Although questions have been raised over the movement of the train and the safety procedures followed after the incident.
Senior railway officials reached the spot nearly two and a half hours after the derailment.
Following the incident, a large crowd gathered near the tracks, which was later cleared by Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel. The railway department has initiated an investigation into the matter.
