28yo held for rape, filming act; sent to judicial custody

Pithoragarh: A 28-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping and blackmailing a 20-year-old woman and was sent to 14 days' judicial custody, police said on Tuesday.The action followed a complaint by the survivor, who alleged that the accused raped her on April 4, 2025, when she was alone at her home. She told police that the accused recorded the act and had been blackmailing her since then.
The station in charge said, "The accused lived in the same neighbourhood and had been harassing the survivor mentally. He allegedly proposed marriage to her earlier, and after she rejected the proposal, he assaulted her. A video related to the incident was recovered from his mobile phone."An FIR was lodged under sections 64, 377, 551 and 552 of the BNS and section 66 of the IT Act. The accused was arrested from his village and produced before a court, which remanded him to 14 days' judicial custody, police said.
