Roorkee: Two men were killed after their speeding car plunged into a sub-canal of the Gangnahar canal between Roorkee and Manglaur on Saturday amid dense fog. The vehicle rammed into a roadside guard railing, broke through the parapet and fell into the canal. The impact threw both occupants out of the car.
Sachin Dhiman, 38, and Vikas Tyagi, 35, both residents of Roorkee, were close friends and were returning from Deoband after attending a wedding. Locals noticed the vehicle lying in the sub-canal and alerted authorities, following which a police team reached the site and retrieved the bodies.

Dhiman's brother-in-law, Bhupendra Kumar, said the two had left for Roorkee around 2 am on Friday and met with the accident about 3 km before reaching home.
Officials said the duo allegedly failed to notice a turn near Rana Steel due to dense fog, after which the car broke through the guard railing and parapet before plunging into the sub-canal.
Sub-inspector Rakesh Dimri of Manglaur police station said, "Postmortem examinations were conducted and the bodies were handed over to family members. CCTV footage from nearby areas is being collected to establish the sequence of events."
