2 dead, 1 injured after tree falls on car

Pithoragarh: Two women were killed and a man was injured after a pine tree fell on their car on Sunday. The victims were on their way to Lohaghat from Champawat when the accident occurred.
Police officials said that Vinod Chaudhary, a resident of Champawat, was travelling to Lohaghat for work when two women asked him for a lift. SHO (Champawat) Sonu Bora said that the car had only gone a few kilometres after the women had boarded it when a pine tree fell on it.Bora said that due to the ongoing road cutting work, the soil has become loose, which could have caused the tree to fall.
All three injured were taken to the district hospital in Champawat where doctors declared the two women dead. Chaudhary was admitted to the hospital.
The deceased have been identified as Durga Devi, 72, and Bhagwati Devi Pandey, 55, both residents of Kanal village in Champawat.
