DEHRADUN: The fifth edition of the three-day

Uttarakhand

Spring Bird Festival is starting from March 9 at

Jhilmil Jheel Conservation Reserve

and

Thano

reserve forest areas.

Around 1,000 bird lovers will participate in the key event. The event is being supported by Union environment ministry, state pollution control board, eco-tourism department and several wildlife NGOs.

GS Pandey, chief conservator of forests (Eco-tourism), said, “Uttarakhand has around 710 bird species, more than half of the total 1200 species found in the entire country. With such rich biodiversity, we are promoting the state as collection of promising destination for bird and butterfly watching. Every year we promote new destinations.”

He said that this year over 1,500 bird watchers, including 50 from 14 countries, will participate. For this three trails in Thano and two in

Jhilmil

have been prepared.

said, “The initiative will help generate a lot of revenue for the state.”
