HC recalls order imposing ₹20k fine on org

Cuttack: The Orissa high court has recalled an order in which it imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on a Jajpur-based organisation for filing a PIL without following the Public Interest Litigation Rules, 2010.The PIL had sought the court’s direction to the state authorities “to take immediate and adequate steps... or test and analyse, ban and control the circulation of the said drug/hazardous substance”.According to the Rules, the petitioner must send a representation to the authorities concerned for taking remedial action before filing a PIL.On October 10, the two-judge bench of acting Chief Justice B R Sarangi and Justice M S Raman had quashed the plea and directed the petitioner to deposit Rs 20,000 in the welfare fund of Orissa High Court Bar Association within seven days as the Rules were not adhered to.Later, the organisation filed a petition for recalling of the order. On perusal of the records, the court found the representations submitted to the authorities concerned were not in proper order as annexure to the petition.Taking note of it, the bench said, “In view of the above, this court recalls the order... only to the extent of imposition of cost of Rs 20,000.”

NHTSA Orders Recall of More Than 120,000 Tesla Vehicles in the United States

The NHTSA reported that Tesla is recalling 120,423 vehicles in the United States due to concerns over cabin door unlocking in crashes. Tesla issued an OTA software update to address the problem. The recall affects 2021-2023 Model S and Model X vehicles that are non-compliant with federal safety standards for side-impact protection. This recall follows Tesla's largest-ever recall of over 2 million vehicles in response to safety concerns raised by a federal regulator, aiming to install new safety measures in the Autopilot system.

Delhi high court reserves order in Sanjay Bhandari case

A Delhi court reserved its order on a supplementary chargesheet in a money laundering case involving Sanjay Bhandari and others. The court fixed December 21 for passing an order on summoning two businessmen as accused. The recent chargesheet named UAE-based C C Thumpi and UK-based Sumit Chaddha as fresh accused. Bhandari, a close associate of Robert Vadra, allegedly purchased properties in London with commission, with Vadra as the beneficial owner.
