Cuttack: The Orissa high court has directed state government to give within a week the timeline as to when PET-CT scan facility will be installed at Jharsuguda, if not in Berhampur and Balasore. PET-CT scan is a vital test required to detect if cancer cells have spread to any other parts of a patient’s body.
The HC was taking stock of the prospects of extending the PET-CT scan to the three towns on Thursday after the facility was made operational at Acharya Harihar Post Graduate Institute for Cancer (AHPGIC) in Cuttack following a PIL.
The two-judge bench of acting Chief Justice BR Sarangi and Justice MS Raman issued the direction after the state govt stated there is good flight connectivity to Jharsuguda from Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Bhubaneswar, from where isotopes for PET-CT scan can be transported.
