Woman arrested for murdering boy in Coimbatore

CHENNAI: The Sulur police on Wednesday arrested a woman for murdering a seven-year-old boy, who is her relative.

Khairul Islam, son of Zaheer Hussain, was found dead in his house on Tuesday. Zaheer, a native of Assam, is working in a mill in Kalangal near Sulur and staying in staff quarters.

Zaheer found his son dead when reached home for lunch on Tuesday. Police found that the boy was strangled with a banian cloth. The body was shifted to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital, where a postmortem was conducted.

Police suspicion turned towards Nurja Kathun, the boy’s relative. They picked her up for inquiry. During investigations, she admitted to murdering the boy.

Nurja Kathun has been working in the same mill for the past one year. Police said that there was a quarrel between Nurja Kathun and Zaheer’s wife in the workplace 10 days ago. The management transferred Nurja Kathun to another mill, which is located far away. She was upset over the transfer.

In this backdrop, she had warned Khairul Islam a few days ago not to play with her daughter. On Tuesday, she spotted him playing with her daughter. Angered over this, she strangled him.

The police registered a murder case. She was remanded in judicial custody.
