COIMBATORE: The Peelamedu police have registered two cases against TVK Coimbatore district secretary V Sambath Kumar and a few others on charges of violating the election model code of conduct and causing traffic congestion at Chinniyampalayam and Goldwins on the Avinashi Road during party leader Vijay's visit on Tuesday.
Police said Sambath Kumar and party members, who were in several vehicles, blocked the busy Avinashi Road without obtaining prior permission from the authorities.
The group allegedly caused massive traffic snarls by moving their vehicles at a snail's pace and bursting firecrackers in the middle of the road, leading to panic among commuters and the public during their leader's visit.
Police booked Sambath Kumar and the others under sections 285, 288, and 292 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
