Two youths die in road accident near Coimbatore

COIMBATORE: Two youths died when a speeding minitruck rammed a motorcycle they were travelling on near Annur in Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu on Thursday evening.


The deceased have been identified as M Sadiq, 25, of Janarthana Nagar in Mettupalayam and P Madan Kumar, 22, of N Nehru Nagar in Coonoor in the Nilgiris district.

Police said Sadiq and Madan were working in a knitting company at Pathuvampalli near Annur.

The accident happened on the Mettupalayam - Annur Road when the duo were going to the company for the evening shift. Sadiq rode the motorcycle.

When they reached near Vathiyar Thottam bus stop, a speeding minitruck coming from the opposite direction rammed the motorcycle. The duo, who were thrown off the motorcycle, sustained severe head injuries on their face and head. They died on the spot.

Annur police inspector Nithya and team reached the spot and sent the bodies to the Mettupalayam Government Hospital for postmortem. The police registered a case against minitruck driver M Prasad, 30, of Udhagamandalam in the Nilgiris district. The police seized the truck and further investigations were on.
