Three minor boys arrested for raping deaf and mute girl in Coimbatore
COIMBATORE: Three minor boys were arrested by the Perur all-woman police on Thursday for separately raping a deaf and mute minor girl at three different places near Thondamuthur in Coimbatore district on March 31.
According to an investigation officer, the girl, aged 16, from Assam was living with her single mother at a rental house at Thondamuthur.
“Around 11am on March 31, she went out after telling her mother, a construction worker, that she was going to a nearby shop and would return soon. However, she returned home only at night and told her mother through sign language that she was forcibly taken to an undisclosed place and raped by an unidentified person,” the officer said.
On Wednesday, the girl’s mother lodged a complaint with the Perur all-woman police, who registered a case and initiated an inquiry with the help of a sign language interpreter. Police also collected CCTV camera footage from the area that showed a minor boy taking the girl to an isolated place and later dropping her near a shop.
“The footage also showed two other minor boys picking her up from the shop and dropping her at the same place at night. We collected the trio’s details and arrested them on Thursday night. The trio, who were residents of Narasipuram and Pooluvapatti, raped her separately at three different places on March 31,” the officer said.
The three were later produced before the juvenile justice board and lodged in the observation home for juveniles at Lakshmi Mills Junction. Further investigation is on.
