Three men, accused of murdering a youth six years ago for refusing to marry off his sister to one of them, were sentenced to life imprisonment in Coimbatore on Monday.

Coimbatore: Three men, accused of murdering a youth six years ago for refusing to marry off his sister to one of them, were sentenced to life imprisonment in Coimbatore on Monday.
They were sentenced to five years of rigorous imprisonment to be spent concurrently on the charge of kidnapping the youth. The convicts, K Nagarathinam, 49, P Srinivasan and P Suresh Kumar were sent to Coimbatore Central Prison.

Prosecution said Nagarathinam was the mastermind behind the kidnap and murder.
K Nagaratthinam, of Thoppampalayam near Othakalmandapam on the outskirts of Coimbatore, worked with Tangedco. He had parted ways with his wife and was living alone after their children chose to stay with the mother.
The victim, R Venkatesh, 17 years old at the times of the murder in 2010, was a contract worker in Tangedco. Nagarathinam used to visit Venkatesh's house and he expressed to marry Venkatesh's 19-year-old sister. Venkatesh refused and a quarrel ensued.
On July 2010, Nagarathinam took Venkatesh to Malampuzha dam in Kerala on the guise of work. Two other accused Suresh and Srinivasan also accompanied them.
hree of them pushed Venkatesh into the dam. Nagarathinam feigned ignorance of the whereabouts of Venkatesh and had joined the victim's family during their search. He also accompanied them to lodge a police complaint. Meanwhile, Venkatesh's body was found by Kerala authorities and handed over.
As suspicion turned towards him, Nagarathinam fled and was eventually caught by the police, along with other two accused. tnn
