Six sentenced to life imprisonment for murder of Pollachi man
COIMBATORE: The fifth additional district judge court in Coimbatore on Wednesday sentenced six people to life imprisonment for the murder of a man during a drunken brawl in Pollachi in 2018.Judge P K Sivakumar found that the six men and a juvenile assaulted and killed Ananth, 41, of Vadugapalayam in Pollachi on Nov 5, 2018. The judge sentenced T Sathish Kumar, 41, C Vincent, 34, K Sivamoorthy 47, M Jayakumar 27, Vivin Das 38, and S Karthik 33, of Pollachi to life imprisonment.

Police said Ananth, who was a supervisor at a private firm in Coimbatore, had gone with friends to a Tasmac liquor shop on the ATSC Road. There was a verbal altercation between the accused and a friend of Ananth. Ananth intervened and calmed the situation. Police said the group later waited outside the bar and attacked Ananth when he came out. They beat him to death. The Pollachi West police registered the case, arrested the accused and filed a charge sheet. Additional public prosecutor S Mohan Prabu appeared for the prosecution. The juvenile’s trial is being held separately before the Juvenile Justice Board.
