Dharmapuri: A giant tamarind tree fell on a govt bus near Uppalam here on Tuesday, damaging the windshield and front portion of the vehicle. Passengers on the bus escaped unhurt.
According to an official source, the accident occurred when the bus, no. 22, was heading towards Palacode after picking up school students from Pannialam village near Marandahalli. V Madhappan was at the wheel of the vehicle.
"Suddenly, a tamarind tree on the roadside got uprooted and fell on the moving bus, damaging its windshield and front portion. Only a few passengers were on board and none of them were injured," the source said.
Villagers removed the fallen tree and restored the traffic, which was disrupted for more than two hours on Dharmapuri-Palacode stretch.
